HP Update FAIL

WTF are they talking about?
A patch meant to stop installation failures… failed to install.
I have been getting a popup from time to time that is titled “HP Update.” Below that, in type that is cut off on the right side, it apparently says “An update is available. Would you like to download and install this update now?”
Nothing I do will get rid of this pop-up, nor does clicking on it do anything. It just sits there until I shut off the computer. I have been wondering if it is some type of virus or legitimate, and if it’s legitimate, why is it so screwy?
If you have an HP machine, then no worries
I have ahd this same thing happen to me for months-it is the most annoying crap. I even spent 2 hours online with an HP rep trying to get rid of this and after doing everything he told me to do-guess what it is still there!!!##&@$&%(%
I too get the update box in windows xp and each time try to perform the install, but it fails to download. I thought it might be the firewall I use, but I don’t see a rule outlawing the downloads. All my searches on the HP site are fruitless. I guess I am stuck with version 4 and no updates!
Any new information on this problem? I bought this computer not 3 months ago… this is really annoying.
