Gaeta’s Lament on Battlestar Galactica

Throughout Guess What’s Coming To Dinner, Gaeta sings to distract himself from the pain after his leg is amputated. The song, Gaeta’s Lament, serves as a narrative thread connecting the entire episode, not only communicating his character’s misery, but weaving together the multiple story arcs.

Alone she sleeps in the shirt of man
With my three wishes clutched in her hand
The first that she be spared the pain
That comes from a dark and laughing rain
When she finds love may it always stay true
This I beg for the second wish I made too
But wish no more
My life you can take
To have her please just one day wake

Gaeta’s song nearly ruined the latest episode.

His character is not very good, and the actor looks like crap.

i dissagree completely. gaeta’s lament was one of the highlights in arguably the best episode of the series.

How dare you say that, the song made the episode. It linked all the stories and helped illustrate the pain of the characters we often forget to think about.

Definately made the episode. The music in BSG is what makes me watch it. Gaeta was the main source of information to the insurgants on Caprica, and he’s an insanely good actor.

Honestly I think he’s the last member of the Final five. (But only because I wish him to have a more prominent role in the series <3)

I absolutely loved Gaeta’s lament. I have watched this episode over and over, more than any other episode thus far; it’s definitely my current favorite.

The song was wonderful; haunting and brilliantly sung. It absolutely made the episode.

Bah, anyone that was not blown away by that song is tone deaf, and completely misses the elements of BSG that make it so special.

Not only was the music of this lament beautifuly written, but the way he sang it was amazing! Not many professional singers could have pulled that off as well. It had a very ancient, Celtic feel to it.

    Wtf
    nub comments lol

The character is well played and has always added an interesting if somewhat conflicted tone to the show.

I expect your lack of appreciation results from an ineptitude at understanding complex narratives.

OT sorta : Season 3 was bollocks…finally the writers.creators are allowed the reign for creative expression and you lambast a character for looking like “crap”

Hello… he’s a recent amputee , i suppose that escaped your astute observation.

I thought his ballad was exceptionally fitting as it expressed wistful dreams…or lamentful dreams flittingly passed…the words escape me

Somewhat reminiscent of the Moulin rouge/natalie coleman there was a boy…

It was the same melody that the 4 cylons (Tyrol, Tigh, etc.) heard in the nebula.

That made me think maybe Gaeda was a Cylon!
