If You Hold A Camera In Montreal You Are A Security Risk Part…

I stopped counting the number of times the Camera Gestapo has prevented me from getting the shot I want to get. Because I don’t care anymore. Those fucking Photography Fascists have been foiled once again.

Behind the tall glass tower that is my office is a very old building which used to be a milk product company, so it has this huge bottle of milk as a display and it’s never been taken down. It’s old, it’s rusted but it has a cachet. These means Dave wants to take it’s picture, but not just any picture, the picture most people wont be able to take, or else, where would be the fun in that?

Between both buildings is a small interior garden. The doors are locked of course. Always a hitch! I try diplomacy first. Go to security and ask them if they could be so kind as to open the doors so I could get my pictures of the milk bottle. And of course there’s a hiccup. I can’t use the photos for commercial gain because it’s private property. Well I’m sorry but if ever I can sell my photos as art I goddamn will. So no they can’t. I tell them I could take the pictures from the street and still sell them because the view is public domain. I could also take them from the 5th or 6th floor from work and they still couldn’t stop me from doing that because I’d be in my place of work. So what’s the difference I say? Still a no go from the Gestapo.

Well fuck them; Dave’s getting his milk damnit.

I go outside, next door to the Baton Rouge restaurant and… wait for it… are you sitting down? I think this qualifies has hacking the city. And keep in mind; I’m somewhat afraid of heights. I climbed the fire escape to the roof and got my pictures done from there. I sorta had the willies from being up so high even though the ramp was super wide and sturdy, but I wanted that fucking shot. And I took some other shots while I was up there also, since I don’t think the restaurant manager looking up at me was gonna let me do this again. He just told me it wasn’t a passage and I said I only took some pictures of the bottle and that was it and I was done and he wasn’t angry and thankfully, no police.

It’s this bottle seen here but this isn’t my picture. The pictures will be posted as soon I as get around to processing them. I hope they come out good, the sun was REALLY bright to day and it was on one side and the glass façade of my office building on the other. I might go down to the 5th or 6th floor to get more, if I feel gutsy enough to just show up in cubicles of unknown people and start taking pictures.

Good for you! I admit I haven’t had too many problems with photo fascists, but then I also don’t do as much photography as I used to. That kind of BS really really bugs me.

@BLORK: Bugs me to. I’m starting to mouth off to these people now. Before the get 3 words in I start blabbing their spiel “can’t take pictures bla bla bla” I’m so irritated.

@CHRISTELLE Yeah and I just copied them to my work laptop to take a look and they don’t look so bad. Can’t wait to process them.
