My fellow blogger and photographer Benni Martini went on a photographic excursion to the famed Dow Brewery in Old Montreal with other members of the Montreal Chapter of Photobloggers.org. Well since it wasn’t posted on their blog until after the fact, I never picked it up in my feeds.
SIDEBAR: For blogging junkies, bookmarks are passé, old news, if you, no matter how cool your photo gallery is, don’t have a feed, sorry we won’t visit your site. I have over a 100 feeds I only visit once I’m alerted of an update in my Google News Reader. Thus endeth the lesson on visibility.
So this morning, I decided to go to the brewery on my own. I figured, I can do this. A few potential squatters don’t scare me, besides with my luck, cops from the very nearby police station will most likely spot before I set foot on the grounds and kick me out. So I pack up my stuff; tripod, monopod, work gloves (in case I need to move some heavy stuff in the abandoned building) flashlight, snacks, bottle of water, cameras, book (for the subway ride).
So I get there… only a small chain to stop me. I look around. Not a soul in sight. Holy shit, for once, no security to stop me. I hop the chain, start patrolling, I spot a door, I make a bee-line for it.
Ahhhh! What the fuck? What are the chances that a HUGE FUCKING BOULDER is in the fucking way? In the middle of downtown Montreal? This isn’t some goddamn Roadrunner and Wyllie Coyote car-fucking-toon. The door was slightly ajar but not enough for me to get in… A boulder… a fucking BOULDER…

You have to get on that door and try to go over the top (il faut passer par le haut de la porte en poussant avec ton dos sur le mur pour arandir l’espace pour réussir à y entrer…) I’m sure you can do it !
By the way, they put that rock on purpose !!
Mmmm.. I hope I can fit in there!!!’
There wasn’t any other way in??
Tiny Christelle will fit in there (and yes it’s THE ONLY entry way)
Big Dave, that’s another story. Even if I were all skinny and I’m not, I don’t think my rib cage would fit in side ways. Plus the inside floor was lower than the outside floor, with my wounded knee I wouldn’t want to take that chance.
We went today to Dow… It was fun! I’m sorry Dave you couldn’t get in…
:( We were able to push the rock a bit further away with a wood/lever.. But still the opening wasn’t big! Just enough for me to fit in sideways without having to do the climbing Benny described!
I’ll have the pics in my Photoblog each day…
Well GEE thanks for the heads up. With 5 guys we could have moved that freakin rock.
I was gonna say I’d tag along and I’m sure we could move it. We should go again Dave, up for it one day?
Next weekend if the weather’s nice? Hoping nothing freaky happens(i.e. a glitch in the matrix and brick walls appear). I’m willing to give it another shot.
Yeah man! I have a gut feeling that I’m supposed to be up to something on Saturday, but nothings on my calendar, we’ll pencil it in for now? If not Sunday also seems free. Know anyone else that might want to come along? I might know of a person or two…
Sorry Dave!!! It was planned at the last minute through Line on the Photobloggers forum!!
Jay, keep me posted. jeliel1618 AT gmail DOT com
Christelle. It’s not like you didn’t know on Saturday when you posted your first comment. It’s not like I don’t have e-mail, like I’m not on your MSN list.
Will do Dave, looks like a go-ahead for us to be honest though. I’m trying to get someone else to come as well. Will let you know when I know.
Dude, just pop out the pins on the hinges!
I see the wisdow in the Blork!
I think I shall bring a hammer and a screwdriver next weekend
Good thinking B-Man
